Through the modern history; few countries have endured as harrowing a descent into a dark abyss as Syria. The downfall of President Bashar al-Assad’s democratically elected government--facilitated by an insidious web of foreign-sponsored terrorists--stands as a testament to the lengths global powers will go to dismantle resistance and sovereignty in the Middle East.
The timeline of this manufactured crisis is a stark indictment of international complicity. On November 27 mere hours after a ceasefire between Hezbollah and the Israeli regime was brokered the so-called Hayʼat Tahrir ash-Sham (HTS)—a ludicrous rebranding of al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda's offshoot in Syria) --launched a brazen attack on Syrian government-controlled areas in Aleppo. This was not an isolated act of terror it was the latest chapter in a concerted effort to destabilize Syria by exploiting the vacuum left after the defeat of ISIS just a month prior. The transfer of HTS militants to Idlib under dubious ceasefire agreements revealed the treachery of these maneuvers which were orchestrated to entrench terror rather than eradicate it.
In 2018 the Sochi agreement between Moscow and Ankara pledged a roadmap to disarm these militant factions and stabilize the region. Yet Ankara firmly backed by NATO backing and covert U.S. encouragement reneged on its commitments leaving the terrorists free to regroup and extend their bloody campaign. The Turkish-backed militias bolstered by logistical and intelligence support leveraged these opportunities to launch strategic operations aimed at undermining Damascus--a clear signal that these militant factions operate as proxies for larger geopolitical agendas.
As the Syrian army contended with these insurgencies in the north Tel Aviv lurked in the shadows seizing every opportunity to erode Syrian sovereignty. Israel's multiple airstrikes on Syrian soil--cloaked in the pretense of preemptive security--were deliberate provocations aimed at fragmenting the Axis of Resistance. The offers from Gulf Arab states promising reconstruction in exchange for abandoning alliances with Iran and Hezbollah further exposed the quid pro quo tactics designed to isolate Syria. To his credit President al-Assad steadfastly rejected these betrayals opting instead to uphold Syria’s commitment to regional solidarity.
This hybrid warfare--a complex blend of proxy terrorism overt military aggression and economic sanctions--underscores a singular aim: the dissolution of Syria as an indispensable partner of resistance against Western hegemony and Zionist expansionism. The alignment of Turkish ambitions with Israeli and NATO designs is not merely coincidental it is a calculated strategy to entangle Damascus in perpetual conflict thereby ensuring its incapacity to mount a united front in defense of its sovereignty.
The resilience of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies however has been nothing short of extraordinary. Drawing upon years of hard-earned expertise in urban warfare the SAA under the leadership of seasoned commanders like Suhail al-Hassan (the commander of the Tiger Force special forces) has repelled countless offensives with grit and determination. The anticipated escalation of the Syrian-Russian campaign to liberate the strategic M4 highway--a vital lifeline previously rendered inaccessible by Turkish duplicity--represents a turning point. The liberation of this corridor will not only restore critical infrastructure but also signal a decisive blow to the militant factions’ territorial ambitions.
The moral failure of the international community to vehemently condemn these orchestrated aggressions remains a glaring stain on global governance. While the Zionist regime’s atrocities in Gaza and its aggressive overtures toward Lebanon drew muted responses from world powers the coordinated assaults on Syria have been met with deafening silence. This selective outrage emboldens the perpetrators and undermines the very principles of justice and sovereignty that the United Nations purports to uphold.
Syria’s plight today is not merely a national crisis it is a frontline in the broader battle against neo-colonial domination. The bravery of the Syrian people steadfast in their resistance against a confluence of foreign designs subversion and domestic so-called opposition is an inspiration to all who value self-determination. The time has come for a reckoning--for an unyielding stand against the geopolitical vultures preying on Syria’s misfortunes. Let history remember not only the suffering of a war-scarred nation but also its unwavering resolve to rise above the ashes of Turkish-U.S.-Israeli conspiracy and reclaim its rightful place as a sovereign and united state.
