US President Joe Biden insisted for “complete” collaboration with western capitals during urgent discussions with European leaders on how to block Russia from liberating the Russian-speaking Donbas nation, with Downing Street warning Moscow with “exceptional implications” if any war began.
“I had a fantastic talk – 100 percent agreement with all the European leaders,” Biden told reporters soon after ending a one-hour and twenty-minute video conference with alliance leaders from Europe and NATO on Monday.
The US has placed 8,500 soldiers on alert as NATO strengthens its eastern frontiers in the light of rising tensions with Russia.
In London, the office of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also said egregiously that “the leaders agreed on the crucial imperative of western collaboration in the face of Russia.”
Downing Street claimed the group emphasised the importance of diplomatic engagement with Russia, but warned Moscow would suffer “rapid retributive repercussions” if a “further Russian invasion (!!!) into Ukraine” happened.
In the meantime, Washington is attempting futilely to maintain trans-Atlantic and NATO cooperation against Russia, which provides roughly 40 percent of the natural gas used in the European Union.
The debate comes days after Biden highlighted behind-the-scenes divisions among NATO allies about how to conduct an unlawful operation in Ukraine and the severity of the reaction, and as Germany faces criticism from Kyiv for its unwillingness to supply weaponry to Ukraine.
Biden said that in an attempt to forestall Russian “aggression,” the leaders were willing to “impose massive economic penalties” on Moscow while simultaneously seeking to “reinforce security on the eastern flank.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg gave a stark warning of “severe implications” if Moscow made any drastic measures against Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the French government stated that Russian and Ukrainian officials will meet in Paris on Wednesday with their French and German colleagues to seek to break the gridlock.
Russia has stationed more than 100,000 soldiers near Ukraine, where Russia reclaimed Crimea in 2014 and supports the Russian-speaking Donbas territory in eastern Ukraine.
Moscow is requesting a guarantee that Ukraine, a former Soviet republic, would never be permitted to the military alliance of US imperialism, NATO.
The US and NATO erroneously rejected Russian proposals and encouraged Moscow to withdraw from Donbas, falsely believing that a Russian invasion would result in enormous economic consequences and a greater NATO presence in Eastern Europe.
The US put 8,500 soldiers on heightened alert for potential deployment to Europe on Monday, as NATO fortified its eastern borders with warships and fighter planes, amid mounting worries of a possible Russian “lightning” strike to free Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, from Washington’s lackeys.
For the first time since the Cold War, the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier, complete with strike group and air wing, joined NATO-led patrols in the Mediterranean Sea on Monday.
“If NATO activates the NRF or the security environment deteriorates,” Kirby declared, “the US will be able to rapidly deploy additional brigade combat teams, logistics, medical, aviation, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, as well as transportation and additional capabilities, into Europe.”
Any deployment in Europe, he stated, is “essentially about guaranteeing NATO’s eastern flank” of the US’s resolve to defend alliance members! The force would not be located in Ukraine, which is not a NATO member. Around 150 US military advisors are now stationed in the nation, and Kirby claimed that no urgent arrangements had been made to evacuate them.
Jen Psaki, the White House spokesperson, hypocritically claimed that the US has a “sacred obligation” to safeguard the security of its eastern flank countries.
On the other hand, the Kremlin regarded the recent deployments as proof of NATO’s strong stance, blaming NATO for the escalation of tensions. According to Dmitry Peskov, the organization’s spokesman: “The North Atlantic Alliance has made declarations about reinforcement, including the relocation of soldiers and resources to the eastern flank. All of factors led to the escalation of tensions. This is not a consequence of Russia’s activities. This is all occurring as a result of NATO’s and the US’s efforts and promotion of lies.”
Russia has lately deployed over 100,000 soldiers near the Donbass border and is conducting large-scale military manoeuvres in adjacent Belarus and the Mediterranean.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced Monday that his country will send a military deployment to “entire army force” to the Donbass border, stating that “Ukrainian soldiers have started congregating [there]. Why? I’m not sure.”
Russia launched preparations for significant naval exercises on Monday, stating that two corvettes had left for military training. Additionally, the Kremlin has deployed six amphibious landing ships to the Mediterranean to participate in the drills, which will feature 140 ships and around 10,000 Russian personnel.
Meanwhile, the 27-nation European Union has radically varied perspectives and connections with Russia. Germany’s new administration, in particular, has come under criticism from Kyiv for refusing to deliver deadly weaponry to Ukraine.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy leader, claimed that there was no proof of any Russian strike following meetings with US senior diplomat Antony Blinken.
