Hamas leader asks for support for Al-Quds in a letter to Ayatollah Khamenei

A senior member of the Islamic Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has called on the Muslim world to take a firm stance in support of the residents of occupied al-Quds (Jerusalem) and take appropriate measures to stop the aggressions committed by Israeli forces in the holy city.

In a message addressed on Sunday to the head of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, drew attention to the ongoing aggression by the Tel Aviv regime against al-Quds and its residents, including an upsurge of Judaisation attempts, settlement building activities, expulsion of Palestinians, ethnic cleansing, attacks on the Damascus Gate of the Old City of al-Quds and on the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, as well as raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and worshippers there.

Haniyeh noted that such actions are part of the Israeli authorities’ efforts to legitimise their settlement expansion in the West Bank, evict Palestinians, confiscate their homes and lands, reinforce the spatial division of al-Aqsa Mosque and change the status quo.

“This is a new crime that has crossed all red lines and hurt the feelings and emotions of the Muslim world. It is directed against the city of Quds and its Islamic identity and existence, and affects the livelihood, future and legitimate rights of its residents – especially Al-Aqsa Mosque and its guardians,” the senior Hamas official stressed.

Haniyeh then criticised Israel’s aggression during the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan and the tense situation in al-Quds and al-Aqsa Mosque, warning of dangerous repercussions of such practices.

The head of Hamas politburo appealed to Ayatollah Khamenei to immediately take a firm stance against Israel’s crimes and try to mobilise Muslims along the Arab, Muslim and international diplomacy to prevent the Zionist regime from continuing its brutal crimes against Palestinians, their lands and the sanctities in occupied al-Quds, especially al-Aqsa Mosque.

“The continuous and widespread efforts of Zionist occupiers in the city of al-Quds to forcibly evict 28 Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, heinous attacks against residents of Damascus Gate, as well as aggressive and provocative attacks on al-Aqsa Mosque and oppression of worshippers are dangerous steps. that require international condemnation and strict measures to prevent the occupation regime and its authorities from continuing their crimes against al-Quds, al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian people,” Haniyeh stressed.

“We send this message to Your Excellency during the holy month of Ramadan – the month of solidarity, cooperation and victory. We all believe and hope that the Islamic world will unite like a well-built edifice to support the Palestinians in al-Quds and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to confront the crimes of the Zionist regime, to prevent the settlers from continuing their aggression, and to support the resistance and steadfastness of the residents of al-Quds and their guardians,” the Hamas chief said.

Haniyeh asserted that the Palestinians in al-Quds (Jerusalem), which has been under Israeli occupation for more than half a century, have taken the path of resistance and patience to defend the land and sanctities of Palestine on behalf of all Muslim and Arab nations, and will not give up until an independent Palestinian state is established with al-Quds as its capital.
