Increased criticism of NATO-EU defense deal

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen signed a defense agreement on Tuesday, January 10.

Many European politicians have criticized the defense agreement between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union, stressing that such an agreement will not bring peace and security to Europe and will increase tension on the continent.

European politicians believe that the NATO-EU defense agreement is another step towards strengthening the NATO presence in Europe, which calls into question the independence and sovereignty of Europe and places control over defense affairs in the hands of NATO and the United States.

French politicians have described this defense agreement between NATO and the European Union as a step towards striking at the sovereignty and independence of European countries and their dependence on NATO and the United States.
