United Nations climate change summit (COP7), to discuss not only bilateral and regional issues, but also the escalating tensions of recent months in the occupied territories. The Amman ruler reportedly stressed the need to intensify efforts to achieve a just peace between Israelis and Palestinians, based on the two-independent-state solution, which can ensure the formation of a sovereign Palestinian state, on the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its designated capital.

A source close to the Jordanian king reported that Abdullah in the meeting reportedly asked Herzog to refrain from any unilateral action that could weaken efforts to achieve sraeli-Palestinian peace.

Jordanian authorities have so far not officially commented on the content of the meeting, following Amman’s recent criticism of Israeli aggression against Palestinians in the wake of the latest security operations in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

Jordan, Israel and the United Arab Emirates signed an agreement last year to build a solar power plant in Jordan as part of the deepening of their relations. Amman signed a peace agreement with Israel in 1994, while the United Arab Emirates normalized relations with Tel Aviv in late 2020 with the controversial “Abraham Agreements,” joined by Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.
