Over 50,000 faithful prayed in the al-Aqsa mosque

More than 50,000 Palestinian worshipers attended Friday prayers at al-Aqsa mosque despite Israeli restrictions on gates and entrances to the Old City of occupied Jerusalem. Infopal reports it.

Meanwhile, the Israeli police force set up dozens of checkpoints, conducted extensive searches and checks on Palestinians and their ID cards, and prevented many of them from reaching the Islamic holy site. Many West Bank worshipers were turned away after the occupation police checked their ID cards at the entrance to the mosque and blocked the entrance.

On Thursday, Palestinian factions called for mass participation in Friday prayers at the al-Aqsa mosque and an intensification of the Palestinian presence at the holy site, to counter an Israeli plan proposed by Israeli Knesset member Amit Halevi to divide the al-Aqsa mosque.
