Sale of ATGMs is the eighth arms deal between Taiwan and Washington

The memorandum of understanding for the sale of an anti-tank mine laying system to the island of Taiwan is considered the eighth arms deal with Washington during the presidency of Joe Biden. In recent years, the United States has intervened in the internal affairs of the island of Taiwan to retaliate against China, and has provided the island with many weapons.

Taiwan’s foreign ministry thanked the United States for agreeing to sell Taiwan an anti-tank mine laying system, according to Sky News, an Arabic television channel. Washington’s agreement to sell this system to Taiwan is due to China’s increased military measures to prevent US military cooperation with Taiwan.

Earlier, the US State Department announced Washington’s agreement to sell the Vulcano anti-tank system to Taiwan, and also announced the cost of this transaction at about $180 million, noting that the sale of this system is part of Taiwan’s efforts to modernize its military and strengthen its military capabilities and is designed to serve national, America’s economic and security interests.

China considers the island of Taiwan part of its territory, but Tsai Ing-wen, chief executive of the island of Taiwan, considers considering the possibility of Taiwan joining China, which was separated from the main country at the end of the 1949 civil war, unacceptable to its citizens.
