Following the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani and his entourage in Baghdad by the US military, a statement was issued by the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei emphasizing “Severe Revenge”.

Western political circles admitted that Iran had the right to retaliate the United States for its illegal move severely.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Special Assistant to the Speaker for International Affairs, pointed to a major US strategic mistake in the assassination of General Soleimani and stated that: “By targeting the Ain al-Assad base with 13 ballistic missiles, it (Iran) took revenge only on General Soleimani's destroyed car, and his blood revenge is greater than that, and the Americans themselves know this.”

In fact, the greatness of Iran's revenge lies in the fact that the attack on Ayn al-Assad was the initial stage of actual revenge and merely a slap in the face that destroyed America's reputation at the international level and shattered its military and political prestige and as well as disclosed ineffective defensive capability. These issues indicate that the next stage of revenge will be harsher. Because, according to Amir Abdullahian, the attack was merely revenge on the car carrying General Soleimani.

In addition, Iran's attack on Ayn al-Assad proved the US military's powerlessness for Western and Eastern superpowers. Because after World War II, no military confrontation took place between the United States and these superpowers, and with this attack, Iran showed that US military power has long been in decline
