Ukraine crisis and the economic suicide of Europe

PARIS – French MP Dupont-Aignan urged to “calm down” Zelensky so that economic suicide in Europe could be avoided. Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, a member of the French parliament and leader of the Arise France political movement, said the EU should “stop supplying arms to Ukraine, lift sanctions against Russia and “calm down” Vladimir Zelensky to avoid “economic suicide.”

“Now is the time to avoid the suicide of Europe, because this crisis is driving us to social and economic suicide. This is the time to come to peace and find a compromise between the two countries and reassure Zelensky,” the politician said at a press conference on TV channel Europe 1.

The politician went on to note that the conflict in Ukraine “has gone in the wrong direction,” with Zelensky using the situation to try to weaken Russia. “France must distance itself from the conflict in Ukraine and assume the position of an arbiter. Today Zelensky’s goal is no longer the defense of Ukraine. His goal, by sacrificing the Ukrainian people, is to serve as a tool for the destruction of Russia. This is a very serious mistake,” Dupont-Aignan said.

Von der Leyen: US measure produces unfair competition
PECNINO-Sunday, in her speech at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen… said the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act was under intense scrutiny in Europe and other parts of the world because it would lead to unfair competition.

The U.S. measure, von der Leyen said, can produce “unfair competition” between the two sides of the Atlantic, “close markets” and “fragment supply chains already tested by Covid.” Brussels’ role is “both to do its homework and to work with the U.S. to mitigate competitive disadvantages.” Washington’s industrial policy requires an “appropriate response,” von der Leyen said, starting with a tweak to European rules to “make public investment easier.”
