TOKYO – The Japanese press, quoting informed sources, writes that the Tokyo government could consider deploying missiles medium-range Americans domestically if the United States enters into formal negotiations on the matter.
So far, in recent years, Washington has raised the issue only on the sidelines of formal meetings. The Sankei newspaper notes that the American side has pointed to LRHW hypersonic missiles and Tomahawk cruise missiles under development as possible candidates for deployment.
Also, the option of deploying missiles on American warships, which are deployed to the Indo-Pacific region on a rotational basis, is not ruled out.
The newspaper also notes that the deployment of missiles in the Japanese archipelago is considered by the United States as one of the components of the plan to create a weapons system on the islands of the so-called first chain, which includes Japan, Taiwan, the northern part of the Philippines and the island of Borneo.
