After the abolition of slavery in the United States on the last day of 1862, black slaves gradually became ordinary but second-class citizens and were abused by whites. "Dogs and blacks are not allowed to enter" was written on some public places or restaurants. The white race tried to discriminate against the black race. As a result of this behavior and racial discrimination, most blacks were kept economically impoverished and therefore encouraged to earn money illegally.
