1973 Arab – Israeli War
The war took place from 6 to 25 October 1973, by a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria against Zionist Entity.
It was the fourth Arab-Israeli war after:
1948 war (Palestine war)
1956 War (Suez War)
The 1967 War (The Six Day War)
Other names of the October 1973 war:
- The Tenth of Ramadan War – Egypt.
- The October Liberation War in Syria.
The Kippur Day War in Israel, because it began on the holiest day for the Jews, (October 6).
October 1973 war:
The war began on Saturday, October 6, 1973 / Ramadan 10, 1393 AH, with the coordination of two sudden and simultaneous attacks on the Israeli forces by Egyptian and Syrian armies, with military or economic support from the Arab countries and lasted for 18 days.
October 1973 war:
The Egyptian and Syrian armies achieved some important successes in the first phase.
The Egyptian army passed the Suez Canal and spread along the eastern side of the canal.
On the other side, the Syrian army invaded the Golan Heights and approached the Sea of Galilee.
October 1973 war:
Things quickly turned upside down. Within a few days, and by launching counterattacks, the Zionist army reached the West Bank of Suez Canal and 100 km from the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and its artillery was able to hit the airspace around the Syrian capital, Damascus.
