Collection of posters: Excavations surrounding the al-Aqsa Mosque

Goal: To create a gap inside the mosque's wall to destroy it

The pretext: Searching for the remaining parts of the Temple of Solomon

Date of starting: The end of 1967; they've undergone nine phases until our day.

First phase:

It started in the end of 1967 until 1968. The excavations stretched over 70 meters long and 14 meters deep in the land.

The result: Creating a very dangerous threat to the southern wall of the holt al-Quds, as well as the religious and archeological buildings inside the mosque.

Second Phase:

It started in the mid of 1968 and ended in 1969. Excavations stretched over 80 meters long, and took place over the same extension of the first phase.

Result: Creating a gap in some Islamic religious buildings on the honorary corner, which includes 14 buildings. Despite that, those buildings were razed by the 'Israeli' occupation bulldozers on June 14th, 1969.

Third phase:

From 1970 to 1974, excavations stretched over 180 meters long and between 10 to 14 meters deep. The total of the excavations in this period hit 400 meters.

Result: Fractures in several buildings and old archeological sites such as the Ottoman Mosque, "Al-Kard" Hotel, Al-Jawhariya School, the Islamic Shura Council School and the Al-Wafa'iya Hospice.
