Perhaps one of the most heinous crimes committed by the tyrannical regime of Saddam Hussein by direct order is the crime of destroying the village of Dujail and killing its people after the attempt to assassinate him in 1982 there. Saddam not only pursued the planners and perpetrators of the assassination attempt, but he and his associates pursued hundreds of village residents, men, women and children. More than one hundred and forty Iraqi citizens were executed for their alleged involvement in the operation, and hundreds of others were exiled and their homes, farms and properties destroyed.
