With the beginning of the twentieth century and the increasing development of the science of chemistry, the alarm bells rang for the possible and widespread use of chemicals in wars for European statesmen, forcing them to ban the use of these substances under a treaty. In 1907, the Hague Convention was ratified by most European countries. however, contrary to the Chemical Weapons Convention, this horrific weapon was used on a large scale during World War I.
