The relationship between Iran and North Korea is considered one of the old strategic relations that began in 1980 in the imposed war between iran and iraq, where Korea began arming Iran against Iraq in exchange for oil, as well as spreading communism to the regions of the Middle East more intensively.

The first case of military cooperation between the two countries was when three Iranian Boeing 747 cargo planes flew to North Korea and returned loaded with medical supplies and artillery shells.

Likewise, cooperation was not limited to arming only, but also trained Revolutionary Guard members and provided expertise in building underground facilities in Iran and Lebanon as well, as all underground facilities, including weapons depots, food stocks, and centers for distributing the wounded, were originally established in 2003 and 2004 under the supervision of North Korean coaches.
