In June 1830, French colonial forces entered Algeria, and about a month later

the city of Algiers (capital) was captured by the French. The Algerian governor immediately fought the invaders, but was defeated and forced to make peace.

But Abdul Qadir's father, Sheikh Mohi al-Din, took over the leadership of the Coalition of Tribes against French Colonization, and two years later, his son succeeded him.
