Notice how westerners and the leaders of the current western civilization have treated our country during the past 80, 90, 100 years. We have a long experience of receiving blows from the west. There are some people in the country - some western-oriented, westernized and westoxicated individuals - who witness these experiences in front of their eyes, but who do not learn a lesson from them[...] They created as many obstacles as they could during their confrontation with the Iranian peoples' Revolution and great movement. They supported and defended Saddam Hussein although they did not approve of him. Because Saddam was against the Islamic Republic, they helped him as much as they could. Westerners, England, the U.S. and France provided him with chemical bombs and different kinds of military weapons. Well, these are our experiences. Westoxicated intellectuals do not benefit from these experiences and they do not analyze them correctly because their calculation system has been disrupted.When we stress the importance of defensive power, this is because of our experience. We have experienced this. There was one day when our country – in Tehran where you come and go comfortably with complete security in the present time – was under the attack of Saddam's missiles. Perhaps, many of you were not born in those days yet. We did not have any means to defend ourselves. That was while everyone was helping Saddam. Others were helping him as well. France was helping as well. It used to give him missiles and planes. The same is true of Germany. Germany was giving him chemical weapons. You know that Saddam's army used to conduct chemical attacks on many occasions. We have so many casualties of those chemical weapons. Many of them have passed away! It was the Germans who were giving him the substances. The Germans used to provide them with chemical substances so that they would make chemical bombs. They might even have provided them with chemical bombs in certain cases. Everyone used to help him, but we were empty-handed. We did not have any means.
