Israel invaded the Gaza Strip to seize the 300-kilometer territory back in 2007. The invasion led resistance groups including Hamas and the Islamic Jihad movement to fight them hard despite enduring years of siege and restrictions. The Israelis ended up accepting the ceasefire after 22 days of open confrontation with the resistance groups.
