After the adoption of UN Security Council resolution 598, Rajavi met Saddam Hussein three times in a space of a few days. Rajavi convinced Saddam to allow his so-called Liberation Army stage an operation to capture Tehran. Saddam agreed and pledged to provide air support until the fall of Tehran.
