Imam Khomeini introduced Islamic economics as something different from "capitalism" and "socialism" and said:

One of the important tasks of scholars, jurists and clergy is to seriously confront the two oppressive and degenerate economic cultures of the East and the West ... and to replace the incorrect economic system of the Islamic world with plans and programs. Constructively and comprehensively represent the interests of the deprived and the poor people.
